PodBeta | Frequency of Episodes

One of the major questions that I get from new podcasters and podcasters that have already been doing it for a long time is: “What is the correct frequency of releasing episodes?”

And to that I say, well, there’s a lot of definitions of frequency and what’s more important is asking yourself, ‘how much bandwidth do I have to be able to produce this particular podcast?’

The reason I start with that is because if you don’t have the bandwidth to continuously put out a weekly show and that’s going to drive you crazy, or make you have some burn out, then, you should not aim to have a weekly show.

Of course, the more content you put up on your podcast feed, and the more consistent you are with it, the better for your growth numbers. However, it is way better to consistently show up for your audience, whether that be monthly, every two weeks, every week, twice a week. Whatever you have the time to do.

That’s why it’s so important to understand how much time you actually have that’s free right now to fit in a project like this. Now, I’m not saying that sometimes you might just work harder or longer hours for your podcast. Of course not.

But, what I am saying is that the frequency you decide upon is realistic for the long haul. You can always add in more podcast episodes later but it is not great to go from weekly to then twice a month to then monthly. Trust me, I’ve done it.

It impacts your numbers as far as growth goes and as far as consistency with your audience, choose a frequency that makes the sense for you and the time that you have to commit to this particular project.
