PodBeta | Consistency and Experimentation
Podcasting is a consistency and an experimentation game. I'm going to say that, again, podcasting is a consistency and experimentation game.
So, if you're starting out on a podcast, I really recommend not envisioning these huge bursts of numbers immediately, right? It's actually about the consistent actions that you can take to continuously build that relationship with your audience, to continuously build the growth of your listenership, to continuously build maybe brand relationships, or affiliate representation, things like that.
So, podcasting is all about consistency of those small pieces that lead to, you know, the eventual growth and exponential boom that you're you're wanting to get. I really encourage you to take a step back when you're starting your podcast and really think about the success metrics that you really want to see. And that doesn't mean numbers necessarily. It can mean numbers, for sure. But they should also indicate things like, I will feel like this podcast is a success if one listener reaches out to me and says, '“Hey, this changed my perspective, or hey, you really helped me with this tip that you shared, or, Hey, this story felt like it was exactly like my story. And I felt heard and seen,” something like that.
Making sure you have the success metrics so that all those consistent pieces feel like they're going towards something even when you're not seeing the like huge bumps of numbers of listeners chips, right away all about consistency.
And it's all about experimentation to so there is no one way to grow or create a podcast at this point. It's still wild west, of course, there are some quote unquote best practices. But the cool thing about this whole space is that you can just experiment with a bunch of different types of things, especially with marketing and growth. And see what sticks, see what you actually like doing the most, see what you like creating the most, and see if that is really going to lead to your overall growth at the end of the day.
And that's what it's all about. It's about consistency. So, showing up consistently when you are committing to that. And then experimenting when you're feeling like things are getting a little stale, or they're not exactly pushing you in the direction that you really want them to be pushed in, then it's time to experiment, maybe try some other social platforms that you aren't normally on or try to do some emailing or try to, you know, connect directly with your audience members, maybe bring some of them on the show. You can be really creative about experimentation, and that not only will help you find the things that really work, but it also helps your own brain to stay engaged in the project if you take certain portions of it and experiment with it as you're trying to grow it.
So there it is, podcasting is all about consistency, and experimentation.
